SHCHERBYNA Oleksii Kostiantynovych (30. 03. 1899, Horodyshche village, Cherkasy Povit, Kyiv Gubernia, now Cherkasy Raion, Cherkasy Oblast — 09. 12. 1979, Moscow) — epizootologist. Doctor of Veterinary Sciences (1949), Professor (1950). Participant of the 2nd World War. State and combat awards of the USSR. Graduated from the Kyiv Veterinary and Zootechnical Institute (1926). From then until 1930, he worked as the chief district veterinarian of Koziatyn Raion (now Vinnytsia Oblast). 1930–31 — chief veterinarian of the republican office of the trust “Svinodar” (Kazakhstan); 1931–34 — research associate at the Kyiv Experimental Fish Breeding Station; 1934–41 and 1948–54 — head of the Department of Fish Diseases at the All-Russian Research Institute of Pond Fisheries (Moscow), 1938–41 (concurrently) — chief veterinarian of the Peopleʼs Commissariat of the Fish Industry of the RSFSR; 1945–48 — director of the fish farm “Vorsha” (Vladimir Oblast, RF); 1954–68 — head of the Department of Epizootology at the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy; from 1968 — at the Ukrainian Research Institute of Fisheries (both — Kyiv): head of the Department of Fish Diseases, scientific consultant. Research interests: infectious and parasitic diseases of fish, their epizootiological features, methods of prevention and eradication.
