Artificial Intelligence Policy

The Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine (EMU) is a scholarly reference work featuring materials authored by researchers, specialists, and experts in their respective fields. The core principle of this policy is the primacy of human authorship, editorial responsibility, and the reliability of encyclopedic knowledge.

The editorial team regards artificial intelligence (AI) exclusively as an auxiliary tool for improving access to content and performing specific editorial or technical tasks. The use of AI is governed by the principles of publication ethics, recommendations from COPE and EASE, and the standards for responsible AI use in academic settings.

Artificial intelligence technologies may be employed for:

Whenever content or elements generated with the support of AI appear on the EMU website, the editorial team aims to clearly disclose the nature of such use, particularly when it is essential for understanding the status of the material.

Materials produced with AI as an auxiliary tool undergo editorial review of varying scope, depending on their type and function. AI-assisted texts or textual elements may contain inaccuracies, terminological inconsistencies, oversimplifications, or other divergences from the original authorial text.

The original authorial text of an encyclopedic article takes precedence over any auxiliary formats created using AI. For citations, academic references, scholarly interpretation, and other professional purposes, the original authorial text must be consulted.

The editorial team reserves the right to amend or clarify this policy in response to technological advancements, evolving academic publishing standards, and the ongoing commitment to reliability and transparency.

In all matters not explicitly covered by this policy, the editorial team is guided by the principles of academic integrity, editorial responsibility, respect for the author’s work, and the primacy of human expertise.
